The note that went to nearby homes
Dear Neighbors
Dear Neighbors,
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the prayers, compassion, time, and effort so many of you gave while we searched for our Precious Nugget. Your kindness meant everything during a very hard time.
We understand that responsible pet ownership includes keeping cats safe, and that outdoor roaming carries risks. Nugget was vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. Even so, the simultaneous disappearance of Nugget along with another neighborhood cat, a mature raccoon that sometimes slept in our garage, a juvenile raccoon, a mother opossum with babies, and the hawks and falcons we regularly saw is notable and difficult to dismiss as coincidence.
We are offering a $500 reward for verified information that helps us learn what happened to Nugget and/or the other missing cat(s) and wildlife. Any credible leads can be shared privately with us.
Texas law takes the poisoning, intentional injuring, or cruel killing of animals seriously. Under Texas Penal Code § 42.092, intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly torturing an animal, or killing, poisoning, or causing serious bodily injury to an animal without the owner’s consent, can be a third-degree felony (2–10 years in prison and fines up to $10,000). These protections cover owned pets as well as stray and feral cats and dogs. Improper use of poisons or traps that harm non-target wildlife can also violate state pesticide rules and wildlife regulations enforced by Texas Parks and Wildlife.
We all share this neighborhood and the green spaces that support local wildlife. If you have any information—or if you simply want to help keep an eye out—please reach out. Together we can look after the animals that share our community.
With gratitude,
Renee Fussell
